What problems are you trying to solve?
To bridge the medical services and accessibility between cities and rural areas with telemedicine solutions.
Why is the problem critically chosen?
National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Hsin-Chu Branch* has been looking for telemedicine solutions, to serve the population in the secluded mountain area in Hsin-chu county. Medical resources in these areas are unevenly distributed and far less accessible. Often, patients in these rural mountain areas are required to travel a long distance to get medical services and attention. This not only adds a lot of risk due to the dangerous and prolonged communes but also wasted precious time to save lives. The otorhinolaryngology department at NTUH Hsin-Chu Branch would like to create and set up virtual clinics that are readily accessible to local residences while providing secured diagnostics for timely treatment.

What technologies are applied to solve the problem?
- Flexible networking integration including 4G and 5G
- Private, Secure and Scalable Cloud Computing for virtual clinics, medical big data and real-time video and voice streaming
- Integration of medically proven sensors and equipment
- Naso-pharyngo-laryngoscope
- Ultrasonic scanners
- Otoscope
- Ultra-high resolution tele-visitation and communication system
Any particular areas of improvement?
The medical services between NTUH and the rural mountain areas are better shared and efficiently utilized thru smart telemedicine solutions such as QOCA atm** from Quanta Computer. Medical resources are better distributed and leveraged with enhanced connectivity as well as secured access. Doctors can cross-reference and provide better assessment with enhanced AI and telecommunication tools, which are built into the QOCA atm solution platform. 5G networking capability not only provides quick and smooth connectivity, but also alleviates the pain in setting up complicated networking, which are normally lacking in rural areas.

What have you learned and how would the technology advancement potentially or practically help?
With telemedicine implementations, we are bridging the medical gap that are commonly observed in rural areas while raising the quality of life by bringing better and more diversified services for a wider population. Virtual clinics are created and inter-connected with major hospitals for timely diagnostics and treatments. With advancement in computation power, data aggregation, enhanced networking performance, and artificial intelligence, Quanta Computer believes that technology can truly help provide a better circle of care for the society. Future expansion plans including connectivity with more medical departments and medical devices such as ECG, and Glucose measurements.
